Who issues event permits in Dubai?

Most public events in Dubai are licensed by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) — formerly known as DTCM — through its online e-Permit system. Events held inside Dubai Development Authority (DDA) free zones such as Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, or Dubai Studio City may additionally require a DDA event permit.

Which events need a permit?

Permits are generally required for conferences, exhibitions and trade shows, concerts and live entertainment, festivals, sporting events, promotional and marketing activations, charity and fundraising events, and most ticketed or publicly accessible gatherings. Performers usually need their own entertainer permits in addition to the event permit. Ticketed events may also require DET e-ticketing approvals, which we arrange alongside the permit.

Documents typically required

Requirements vary by event type, but applications commonly include a valid trade licence, venue booking confirmation, the event programme or concept, details of performers or speakers where applicable, and no-objection certificates (NOCs) from relevant authorities. Incomplete documentation is the most common reason applications get delayed.

How the process works

The typical flow: define the event format and venue, prepare the required documents, submit the application through the DET e-Permit portal, respond to any queries or requests for additional approvals, and receive the permit before the event date. Timelines depend on the event type and complexity, so applications should be submitted well in advance.

How Nexa Event helps

We manage the entire permit process on your behalf: assessing which approvals your event needs, preparing and submitting applications, obtaining entertainer and speaker permits, coordinating NOCs, and tracking everything through to issuance — alongside our event registration, production, branding, and staffing services.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get an event permit in Dubai?

It depends on the event type and how complete the application is. Simple events are often approved within a few working days, while large or complex events involving entertainment, road closures, or multiple authorities can take several weeks. Apply as early as possible.

Do private corporate events need a permit in Dubai?

Internal company meetings on private premises generally do not need an event permit. Events that are ticketed, open to the public, held at hotels or external venues, or that include entertainment usually do. We can assess your specific event for you.

Do performers need their own permits?

Yes. Singers, DJs, dancers, and other performers at events in Dubai generally require individual entertainer permits issued through DET, in addition to the event permit itself.

Can Nexa Event apply for the permit on our behalf?

Yes. We prepare and submit the application, coordinate any required NOCs and supporting documents, and follow up with the authorities until the permit is issued.

What happens if an event runs without a required permit?

Running a permitted-category event without approval can lead to fines, cancellation of the event, and difficulties obtaining permits for future events. It is not worth the risk.
