Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority

Who issues civil defence approvals in Abu Dhabi?

Preventive safety for events in Abu Dhabi sits with the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority (ADCDA). Its Civil Protection Sector sets the prevention and safety requirements that apply across the emirate, applies engineering standards to the structures and materials used, and inspects on site.

Which events need civil defence approval?

Any event that brings in temporary structures or changes how a space is used — stages and rigging, marquees and tents, grandstands, exhibition build-ups, and outdoor setups on open ground. Indoor events in existing venues come into scope when the layout, occupancy or exit routes change.

Documents typically required

Submissions are built around the layout: a site or floor plan showing where structures sit and how exits and access routes run, structural and material details for the temporary elements, the event programme and timings, and confirmations from the venue where the event is held at a licensed one.

How the process works

What is assessed is the structure and the layout, not the event programme. The drawings are measured against Abu Dhabi's preventive safety requirements before build-up begins, questions raised during the review are answered as they come, and an inspection on site may follow once the setup is standing. Nexa Event carries the application through from submission to approval.

How Nexa Event helps

We work out what needs approval, coordinate the layout and drawings with your stand or production contractor, and time the civil defence approval against your DCT event licence and the other Abu Dhabi approvals so build-up starts on schedule — alongside registration, production, branding and staffing for the event itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does Abu Dhabi Civil Defence approval take?

The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority does not publish a standard processing time for event submissions; it depends on the structures involved and the completeness of the drawings. We file as early as the layout allows and track the application through to approval.

Is civil defence approval the same as my event licence?

No. It covers the safety of the structures and the setup, and sits alongside your DCT event licence or other Abu Dhabi approval. We run them together so the approvals land in the right order.

Do exhibition stands and temporary structures need a separate approval?

Yes. Stages, marquees, grandstands, rigging and stand structures need civil defence approval in the emirate where the event runs — the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority in Abu Dhabi, Dubai Civil Defence in Dubai.

Which events need approval?

Any event that raises temporary structures or alters a venue's layout, occupancy or exits — outdoor activations, exhibitions with build-up, concerts and staged events, and marquee or tented setups.

Do we need an Abu Dhabi company to get the approval?

Event permits in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah are applied under Nexa Event's own trade licences; for certain permit categories, additional requirements apply — we confirm exactly what is needed for your event.
